Who I Am as a Spiritual Director/Companion

People often ask me what spiritual direction/companionship is and what I do.  The most straightforward answer I like to give is that it’s my radically inclusive way of being with you and listening deeply to the stories and songs of your life.  

It is me being present to you and listening for how Sacred Reality reveals itself to you and asking curious questions that invite you into deeper reflection while at the same time, it is me creating a container of safety that allows you to speak freely and honestly about what is most true for you.  

I’ve noticed what people don’t ask me is who I am as a spiritual director, and that seems to me to be equally as important as what I do, so I want to share a pantoum poem that I believe gives you a glimpse into this:

I am adventure 

joy 

love 

and connection 

I am pain 

sorrow 

healing 

and rebirth

I am gentleness

presence 

heart 

and mind

I am body

soul 

spirit 

and breath
